Asphalt Rejuvenation

Asphalt rejuvenation is not new, its actually been around since the 1980’s used by businesses and municipalities alike to extend the life of asphalt roads. In the past oils (bio-based or petrochemical) were fortified with other chemicals and sprayed onto the surface of the roads and allowed to soak in to help the asphalt remain flexible & prevent cracking/flaking. This same formula is used by many of our competitors on roofs today in one form or another.

The Fresh Roof Difference

Fresh Roof is derived from soybean oil and like our competitors we replace the oils lost over time in roof shingles and that’s where our similarities end. Instead of relying on a shingle “softening” agent Fresh Roof is manufactured to contain molecular compounds that interact with oxidized asphalt to rebuild those bonds which restores flexibility to the shingles. This interaction & reaction occur quickly after our application but keep reacting over time to ensure flexibility for a long long time. (9-10 years!)

In addition to our ability to radically transform asphalt shingle at the molecular level our micro-lipid delivery system allows way more of our rejuvenator to reach every part of the shingle to ensure uniform improvement and performance. We didn’t stop there…then we introduced our newest iteration containing a biocide component to help shingles stay clean while performing as intended.

Technically Speaking

Asphalt is made up of a mixture of bitumen and aggregate. Bitumen is a thick petrochemical that is found with other crude oil, classically referred to as tar. Bitumen is the part of the asphalt that loses its flexibility over time and the same part that Fresh Roof interacts with to restore flexibility. Due to the nature of our rejuvenator the restored bitumen also helps to keep the top sand in place on the shingle with lab tests confirming this ability at a 50% improvement.

Over time UV rays, extreme heat and rapid cooling breakdown the polymer bonds in bitumen where they are replaced by a more rigid crystalline bond creating a brittle shingle that is susceptible to cracking, breaking and wind damage. When Fresh Roof is applied the partial polymer bonds in our rejuvenator react with the brittle bitumen molecules to restore a flexible polymer once more.

Fresh Roof uses patented technology & an exclusive formula that no other rejuvenation method can match. If you hear someone claiming that asphalt shingle rejuvenators are all similar, think again!

Off The Shelf Option

These are the classic bio-based oils that are used on roads relabeled and sold as shingle rejuvenators. They soften a shingle and the impact on retaining top sand is not clear. Typically claiming to last 5 years. These options typically drench the roof with their rejuvenator because the oil has not been processed enough to penetrate into the shingle as efficiently.
